Cold Week
After a brief but welcomed milder spell over the weekend, the region is set to see temperatures take a tumble again. Cold air is gathering in the east and as winds gather a little strength they will start to feed the cooler air in during Sunday. The east-northeasterly breeze will also push wintry showers inland at times and we can expect the return of the hard overnight frosts, the familiar theme to this winters weather is certainly back with us.
Sunday its a cloudy day across much of the region, in fact only the far west stands any chance of seeing the odd glimpse of sunshine. We also have some mist and fog across parts of Wales and the northwest, this is proving a little stubborn to clear, but it should thin out this afternoon. The cloud in the east may be thick enough for a little drizzle at times, but for most it remains dry. A cooler day temperatures struggling to climb higher than 3-6°C at best.
Sunday night much of the region continues to sit under the blanket of cloud, it will be a chilly night with the risk of a little frost in places, for most the temperatures will just remain above freezing, 1-2°C.
Monday we may start with a little patchy frost in places, but for many it should be a frost free start. We still have a fair amount of cloud across the region, we may see some brighter spells for a time in the far north. The fresh east-northeasterly wind will feed some showers across East Anglia and the southeast, perhaps the east Midlands too, these are likely to turn wintry at times. Temperatures 1-5°C.
Monday night we still have the risk of a few showers across the east for a time, elsewhere we see patchy cloud and a frost as temperatures drop below freezing in places. Tuesday and Wednesday we continue to see the risk of local snow showers in the east. The wind remains northeasterly and fresh at times, later in the week its likely to change to a slightly more northerly direction and this will continue to feed wintry weather down the east coast at times.
